Keeping an eye on your pet.

New technology has made a routine eye exam for your pet easier and less expensive than ever before. We can detect early signs of glaucoma which causes pain and blindness that, if caught early enough, can be slowed dramatically to give your pet comfort and sight as long as possible. With tear production measurement we can detect dry-eye that can lead to infection and pain corneal ulcers.
By staining the eye we can actually see ulcers or defects in the cornea that can be painful or change treatment of infected eyes. A Tonovet is the latest technology for measuring eye pressures.

Using a Tonovet® our staff is able to measure quickly, accurately, and painlessly the pressures in your pet's eyes. If pressure is high or low we can make recommendations as to courses of treatment that will be most beneficial to your pet's long term well being.

How do I know if my pet needs a full eye exam?

Eye exams as part of a yearly check up (vaccines, testing, etc...) are recommended for the following breeds:

Pugs
Pekingese
Shih Tzu
Boxers
Boston Terriers
Chihuahua
Lhasa Apso
Daschund
... or any "buggy eyed" mixed breed.

If your pet is showing signs of eye problems such as discharge, holding the eye partially or fully closed, redness or swelling of the eyelids, or a cloudy appearance, bring them to RASCAL or your regular vet right for an eye examination right away.

What happens if I let an eye problem go on too long?

Your pet can lose vision or even the entire eye if a problem is not treated appropriately. As with most medical issues, the sooner you address it the better it is for your pet and the less expensive it will be. Here is a picture of a dog RASCAL saw that was rescued from a puppy mill.

Notice the crustiness and discharge around his left eye.

His eyes underneath the lids are very red.

This poor dog was very painful and could have lost his eye if not for a caring rescuer and RASCAL's medical intervention. Thanks to medication for pain and to treat his eye, he continues to improve but he will never be back to 100% on his left side.

We have priced these diagnostics so that everyone can afford them for their pet. Make your appointment today for an eye exam with RASCAL by clicking here.
